I first received quotes from Sunshine Renewable Solutions following the freeze in Texas in February. Zane was a great in working with me to update the Energy Sage quote (Energy sage over estimated my power needs initially when they communicated to bidders). He had an updated quote to me within a day of me providing the additional information. He walked me through options regarding microinverters vs power optimizers, pros and cons of batteries, and how they size systems (daily sunlight, roof layout, shading issues, etc). Their bid was competitive (within $0.03/Watt) with other bids I received, but the other positive reviews hooked me.

I went with Nuwatt because I was very comfortable with their sales rep Maan. He was very thorough and patient in our decision making since this is a big investment. The project caught a few snags from Eversource but Nuwatt team was very responsive in getting the job done. Evidently, my 3+ year old SunPower system is not compatible with SunVault. I have rev. C of the micro inverters…Evidently, SunPower only supports rev E&G …. VERY disappointing. Backwards compatibility of less than 3+ years??? Guess Rev D is out of luck as well…. what would that be 2 or less years?…. I though buying “Made In America” would have also included support worthy of such a statement ….

Solar Alternatives representatives were professional and effective throughout our project of adding a Tesla solar battery to our solar panels that were already in place. We are now, essentially, off the grid, because our excess solar power is stored in the battery and used by us whenever the sun is down. The battery also provides power during power outages which will come in handy during hurricanes and squalls. Erus energy destroyed two fuses and a transformer when turning off and on my power, including a ceiling fan. The repairman from Erus took two weeks just to figure out what was wrong with my ceiling fan telling me constantly “I don’t know.” Soon after I notice that my A/C is having issues.

I selected SolarUnion after an exhaustive review of about a dozen competitors — I was most interested in customer reviews and track record of completing the job. I’ve been burned before by selecting the low bid only to discover that you get what you pay for … namely, the low bidder will start adding things that are “out of scope”. SolarUnion bid a price for the work and came in at that price — no excuses for things they may have missed in the bidding process, no increases in costs for things that were left out of the original proposal. I found them to be responsive, attentive. I had two challenges with them that were overcome: (1) their primary on-site guy got sick so my job was delayed by two weeks (a few days for his health + 1 1/2 weeks to get my job re-scheduled). I felt they could have moved someone else … they claimed they put my job in ASAP. (2) I sometimes had to follow-up with status from them (which they were fast to respond) instead of them reaching out to tell me. Some of it was in my favor e.g. SolarUnion showed up on property to meet the City inspector and then I got an email (later that morning) that there would be a City inspection. Certainly not a problem. Other times, e.g. when the job was postponed, I followed up with S-U to find out what happened. HOWEVER, I’d give them 5 stars for everything that mattered — pricing, quality of work, speed of work once on-site and follow-through to make sure we’re connected to the grid. And they were always nice and responsive. I’ve already recommended them to two other friends.
